How much does a private colonoscopy cost?
On pages we opened on 3 October 2026, prices ran from £1,600 for hospital fees only at St John & St Elizabeth Hospital to a £3,635 guide price at Nuffield Health Bristol Hospital. Polyp removal, histology, sedation and consultant fees are often extra. See private colonoscopy cost.
Do I need a GP referral for a private colonoscopy?
Usually. Nuffield Health and Welbeck said a GP or specialist referral was needed. Vista Health offered a consultation that includes a referral if needed. See GP letter.
I have been referred on a two-week wait. Should I go private instead?
If you have been referred on a two-week wait, keep that appointment. A private colonoscopy is a separate, paid option. It does not replace the NHS appointment, and you should not cancel that appointment for it.
Does filling in the form book a colonoscopy?
No. The form asks one partner hospital to contact you. It is not a confirmed appointment and no slot is held. On 3 October 2026, no partner hospital had signed with us, so no partner covers any postcode yet. We still store requests, and the thank-you page tells you plainly that nobody will contact you about yours for now.
Is this site part of the NHS?
No. Private Colonoscopy is a trading name of PASECOM GROUP LTD. We are not the NHS, not a clinic, and not a referral service.
Who is this site for?
People in England who already want a private colonoscopy and want plain facts about the price, the referral rule and what happens next. We do not decide whether you need the test. That is for a GP or a specialist.
What is a colonoscopy?
The NHS website describes a colonoscopy as a test to check inside your bowels. A long, thin, flexible tube with a small camera is passed into your bottom. You take a laxative first so your bowels are empty. You are usually awake, and you are offered medicine to make you more comfortable. Source: NHS website: Colonoscopy, opened 3 October 2026.
Is a private colonoscopy the same test as an NHS one?
It is the same kind of test. What changes is who pays, how soon, and where. A private test does not replace an NHS referral you have already been given. If you have been referred on a two-week wait, keep that appointment. If you are offered an urgent NHS referral, take it. A private colonoscopy is a separate, paid option.
What about NHS bowel screening?
The NHS offers a home test kit (FIT) to people aged 50 to 74 every two years. If your result says you need further tests, you are invited to see a specialist nurse. Keep that NHS appointment. A private test is an extra, paid route, not a replacement. The screening helpline is 0800 707 6060. Source: NHS website: Bowel cancer screening, opened 3 October 2026.
How long is the NHS wait for a colonoscopy?
We quote one measure: NHS England's diagnostic waiting times (DM01). At the end of July 2026, 79,510 people were waiting for a colonoscopy, and 30.8% of them had waited six weeks or more, up from 27.3% in July 2025. Source: NHS England DM01 report, July 2026, published 10 September 2026, opened 3 October 2026.
DM01 counts people still waiting for the test. It is not the referral-to-treatment clock, which measures something different. We do not mix the two.
