What is the cheapest private colonoscopy in England?
The lowest figure we found on 3 October 2026 was £1,600 at St John & St Elizabeth Hospital, for hospital charges only. The lowest price that named histology as included was Vista Health's £1,700, plus a £225 consultation.
Does a private colonoscopy price include sedation?
Sometimes. Ask the hospital directly. Sedation, polyp removal, histology and the consultant's fee are often extra, and price pages do not always say which is which.
Is the first consultation included in the price?
It depends. Spire and Nuffield Health include it in the prices we list. Circle Health Group's guide price does not, and its page says consultation fees tend to start from around £200. Vista Health charges £225 for its consultation.
Are there extra costs after the test?
Possibly. One Stop Healthcare's hospital package excludes the follow-up consultation. Vista Health includes a same-day follow-up. Ask who explains the results, and whether that costs extra.
How often do you check these prices?
Every month. We open each hospital page again, update the figure and the date, and delete any row we cannot verify.
Why do private colonoscopy prices vary so much?
Mostly because the prices do not cover the same things.
- Hospital fees only, or a package. St John & St Elizabeth Hospital's £1,600 covers hospital charges only. Its page says the guide price excludes consultation fees, diagnostic tests, and the surgeon's and anaesthetist's fees. Spire's from-prices include a consultation, the consultant's and anaesthetist's fees and aftercare.
- Diagnostic or therapeutic. St John & St Elizabeth lists £1,600 for a diagnostic colonoscopy and £1,650 for a therapeutic one, where treatment is carried out during the test.
- The hospital. Nuffield Health's guide prices ran from £3,155 in York to £3,635 in Bristol on 3 October 2026.
- The consultant. Spire and Circle both say the final price can change with your choice of consultant and anaesthetist, who set their own fees.
What is the cheapest private colonoscopy we found?
The lowest headline figures were hospital fees only: £1,600 at St John & St Elizabeth Hospital in London and £1,634 at One Stop Healthcare in Hemel Hempstead. Neither includes the consultant's fee.
The lowest price we found that names histology as included was Vista Health in Bristol: £1,700 for the colonoscopy, which includes biopsy or polyp removal, histology and the report, plus a £225 consultation. Together that is £1,925.
How much does a colonoscopy cost at Spire, Nuffield or Circle?
- Spire Healthcare: from £2,558 at Spire St Anthony's to £3,079 at Spire South Bank, each including a first consultation of £222 to £234.
- Nuffield Health: guide prices from £3,155 (York) to £3,635 (Bristol), each including a first consultation from £200. Nuffield gives a fixed price after that consultation.
- Circle Health Group: from around £2,158 as a group-wide guide, without the first consultation. Circle Reading Hospital listed from £2,700.
Why might my quote be higher than the from-price?
A from-price is the lowest the hospital expects to charge. Spire says the quote can rise with your choice of consultant, the type of anaesthetic and your medical history. Nuffield Health calls its figure a guide and says the final price may vary with consultant fees, drugs and existing conditions. Ask for a written, fixed quote before you pay.
Can I spread the cost?
The Spire pages we opened showed finance examples at a representative 9.9% APR over 18 months. Borrowing for a test is a real cost. Read the terms before you sign.
How long is the NHS wait for a colonoscopy?
At the end of July 2026, 79,510 people in England were waiting for a colonoscopy. 30.8% of them had waited six weeks or more, up from 27.3% in July 2025. That is NHS England's diagnostic waiting times measure (DM01), published 10 September 2026. It is not the referral-to-treatment clock. Source: NHS England DM01 report, July 2026.
